Below is information about projects I completed while working as an interpretive designer for Audubon Nature Institute.
I spent almost 7 wonderful years as an Interpretive Designer for the Audubon Nature Institute, where I helped the organization create eye-catching, educational, and themed graphics and exhibits. While at Audubon, I participated in opening over 10 new major exhibits and was able to use my artistic skills and deep love of the natural world to share a message of conservation with the thousands of guests who visit the ANI facilities.
The Lion Kopje Project featuring a replica train station at the Audubon Zoo was one of the most comprehensive projects I’ve had the opportunity to work on.
As part of the Construction and Exhibits team, I assisted in theming this multi million dollar exhibit. I designed all animal and park style signage. In addition, I created artwork for travel posters, journal entries, lion identification card illustrations, and the Kulinda railway logo.
I also designed digital interpretive graphics in collaboration with the Director of Media and Exhibits.
For the Elephant Pavilion Project, I created everything from exhibit concept art during the planning stages to designing many different interpretive graphics that were used in the actual exhibit. These graphics included animal IDs, cultural graphics, and digital interactive graphics.
These signs and graphics were especially fun to design as we drew inspiration from the shapes and colors associated with Asian art and culture. Because the elephant pavilion is covered, but still outdoors, all signs and graphics were printed on iZone high-pressure laminate material. The resulting signs are not only high quality prints rich in color, but also durable.
In addition to static signage, I also worked with the Director of Media and Exhibits to create an interactive elephant painting game. The game teaches guests about the Holi Festival in India in which elephants are elaborately painted and decorated. I designed all visual elements of the game.
The following images are a few examples of various signage, graphics, and illustrations I created for the Audubon Zoo, Audubon Louisiana Nature Center, and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. When I was designing across facilities, it was important to not only consider content and appropriate thematic style for each project, but also to think about the installation and display of graphic in each area.
In addition to designing a variety of graphics, I am also capable of creating custom illustrations. Below are a few samples of artwork I created for various projects throughout ANI.
